The Art of Giving Advice

Be nice. Be wise. Be kind. There is fruit in that approach—real reward.

When we speak to people with care, when we show them that our words come from concern rather than control, they feel it. They recognize when advice is rooted in love. Approaching others gently, especially youth, opens the door to trust and understanding.

Giving advice isn’t about insisting or forcing someone to listen. It’s about patience. I’ve learned never to give up on people, especially family. There are always ways to reach someone if we’re willing to be thoughtful and intentional in how we speak.

Sometimes, offering guidance is an art. It requires wisdom—knowing when to speak, how to speak, and when to simply listen. A harsh word can close a heart, but a kind one can invite reflection and change. Being wise in our approach allows our message to land without pushing others away.

In the end, kindness carries weight. Wisdom builds bridges. And care, when it’s genuine and sincere, builds community.

Follow these steps to ensure your child gains the full protective benefits of reciting these verses (aka: al-Mu^awwidhat)

1

Step 1:

Do as the Prophet did:

Holding your palms together facing upwards.

Recite into your palms each of the three Surahs (one time each) in order: Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas.

Blow softly (three times) with some breath into your palms النفث.

The blessings of the recitation is transfered to your palms.

Step 3

Then wipe your palms over your head and face and what you can from the rest of your body. This spreads the barakah over your body.

The Power of Daily Recitation

Why Reciting the Surahs Matters

Reading Surahs Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas properly (following the rules of Tajweed) is an important habit to get into. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ  guided his nationt to recite these surahs daily – when a person wakes up and in the evening. The times for recitation is at fajir and up to three hours after, and at sunset (Maghrib) and up to three hours after. These Surahs act as a shield, as was narrated in the hadith:

As our students in the Class of 2025 embark on the exciting journey towards higher education, we want to take a moment to celebrate some early successes. A huge congratulations to those graduates who have already received acceptances to the University of Kansas and York College! Your dedication and hard work have paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder.

For all our students navigating their post-secondary options, it’s important to remember that many paths can lead to a fulfilling and successful future. Whether your sights are set on a large state university like Florida State University (FSU) or the Penn State University, or perhaps a more intimate setting like Widner University, the options can feel both exhilarating and overwhelming.

We often focus on the “dream school” – the one that captures their imagination with its vibrant campus, renowned programs, or winning sports teams. And while these aspirations are important, it’s also crucial to consider the various routes to achieving those dreams. One often-overlooked but incredibly valuable option is starting at a community college.

For some students, heading straight to a four-year institution right after high school is the perfect fit. They’re ready for the full university experience and have a clear academic trajectory in mind. However, for others, the transition might feel daunting, or perhaps their academic focus isn’t yet fully defined. This is where community college can shine.
