digiTIES Technology Usage Policy (prior version) |
Policy Overview
digiTIES provides technology resources to support the educational and administrative activities of the school. Use of these resources is a privilege, not a right. This policy establishes standards for acceptable, responsible, and legal use of all digiTIES technology resources, including networks, hardware, software, email, and internet access.
Purpose & Statement
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that technology resources are used responsibly, securely, and in accordance with applicable law; to protect student and school data; to maintain a safe and productive learning environment; and to support digital citizenship.
Scope & Who This Applies To
This policy applies to all students, staff, contractors, and any authorized user of digiTIES technology resources, including network access, school-issued devices, school email, and educational platforms.
Key Definitions
- Authorized User: Any student, staff member, contractor, or volunteer with legitimate access to digiTIES technology resources.
- Technology Resources: All equipment, networks, software, platforms, email, and internet access provided or managed by digiTIES.
- School-Approved Platform: Technology resources explicitly approved by the administration for educational use.
- Personal Device: Technology not owned or managed by digiTIES, including personal computers, tablets, and phones.
Authorized Use
Technology resources are provided for authorized educational and administrative purposes. Access ceases when a person’s employment, enrollment, or contract with digiTIES ends. By using digiTIES technology resources, all users consent to monitoring by the school.
Privacy Expectations
Network resources are school property. Users have no reasonable expectation of privacy when using school-provided technology or networks. The school may monitor, access, and review all use of technology resources, including email, browsing history, and file storage. This includes the right to access stored data and communications for safety, security, and compliance purposes.
Responsible Use
All users must use technology resources responsibly and legally. Responsible use includes:
- Protect the privacy of others; do not share or disclose personal information without consent.
- Maintain student data confidentiality; do not access, copy, or transmit student records without authorization.
- Do not waste resources; use bandwidth, storage, and equipment efficiently.
- Do not tamper with, damage, or attempt to repair hardware without authorization.
- Do not impersonate others or use another person’s account.
- Respect copyright and intellectual property laws; do not download, share, or use copyrighted content illegally.
Students During Live Sessions
During live instructional sessions, students must:
- Remain on school-approved platforms only; no personal social media or non-school platforms during sessions.
- Not engage in games, non-school chatting, or off-task activities.
- Not leave sessions without explicit teacher permission.
- Use appropriate language and conduct as if in a physical classroom.
Inappropriate Materials
Use of technology resources to access, store, create, or transmit any of the following is strictly prohibited: pornography; offensive, discriminatory, or explicit materials; materials that harass, threaten, or harm others; and any content that violates school policies or applicable law.
Security
Passwords and authentication credentials are individual and confidential. Users must not share passwords with others. The school retains the ability to bypass user passwords for maintenance and security purposes. No user may attempt to circumvent security measures, firewalls, or access controls.
Internet Use
When using internet access, users must:
- Protect personal safety; never disclose personal information, addresses, or phone numbers online.
- Respect copyright and do not download files illegally.
- Maintain antivirus software and security tools on personal devices if used for schoolwork.
Policy Enforcement
Violations of this policy may result in the full range of sanctions, including loss of technology access, disciplinary action, suspension, expulsion, or termination of employment. The school will report violations to the principal immediately. Serious violations may be reported to law enforcement. Students and families will be notified of violations and consequences as appropriate.
