Ramadan

Ramadan has returned – the month of the Qur’an, the month of repentance. It’s a special time of year. It’s the month in which the reward for good deeds is multiplied — reciting Qur’an, praying, feeding the Muslims, donating in charity, and many good deeds. And like every year, we celebrate Ramadan with our students at digiTIES, where we teach them the importance of fasting and being patient in this special month.

Helping Your Child Fast

If your child is ready to fast — has reached the age of mental discrimination (tamyeez), understands what constitutes a worship, and is able physically to tolerate fasting — here are some ways to help:

  • Start before Ramadan! Build excitement by talking about the merits and importance of this month and the big reward of fasting. Decorate the house including the child’s bedroom for Ramadan.
  • Set realistic goals. Help children fast for partial days at first, gradually building up.
  • Make sahoor and iftar special. Involve children in preparing meals.
  • Connect fasting with worship. Encourage extra Qur’an recitation, prayer, and good deeds.
