- Who We Are
Ramadan
The month of the Qur’an, the month of repentance
About Ramadan
Ramadan is a special time of year. It is the month in which the reward for good deeds is multiplied — reciting Qur’an, praying, feeding the Muslims, donating in charity, and many more good deeds.
Like every year, we celebrate Ramadan with our students at digiTIES, where we teach them the importance of fasting and being patient in this special month.
Helping Your Child Fast
If your child has reached the age of mental discrimination (tamyeez), understands what constitutes worship, and is physically able to tolerate fasting, here are some ways to support them:
- Build excitement before Ramadan — Talk about the merits and importance of the month. Decorate the house and do a countdown to Ramadan.
- Encourage patience — Explain that fasting involves some hardship, and that patience leads to great reward. Share ahadeeth about fasting with your child.
- Keep them engaged — Fill the day with reading, memorizing Qur’an, saying dhikr, making du^a’, visiting family, paying charity, and other beneficial deeds.
- Track their progress — Help your child chronicle the days they fasted using a personal calendar. This boosts their sense of achievement.
- Create community — Keep your child around other fasting children for positive peer support. Allow them to have iftar together at times.
- Celebrate their effort — At the end of Ramadan, remember your child with a special gift in recognition of their fasting.
